Types I and III collagen are good for your hair, skin, nails, and bones. They improve the elasticity and hydration of the skin, support strong bones, repair damaged nail beds, make hair thicker and more voluminous, improves circulation, and helps you burn fat during sleep.
Type II Collagen
The primary focus of Type II collagen is cartilage. Cartilage is important for joint health, and this type of collagen is often used as a supplement to aid those with joint injuries, joint pain, or arthritis. Up to 50 to 60 percent of the proteins found in the cartilage of the body is made up of Type II collagen. This type of collagen when combined with glucosamine, chondroitin, and hyaluronic acid can greatly benefit those with joint pain and poor joint health.
Supplementing with Collagen
It is important to note that you should not supplement both Types I and III and Type II together. A supplement with Types I and III should can be taken at any time of the day. However, most people take it in the morning, around noon, or both. However, it is generally recommended that Type II collagen supplements are taken at bedtime, on an empty stomach, and alone. You are not likely to find a supplement that contains all three of these types of collagen.
Best Type Of Collagen
The best types of collagen supplements are powders. These can be mixed into a hot or cold beverage, or added to some foods. These supplements are the easiest to digest, and their makeup is such that it makes the collagen more easily utilized by the body where it needs it most. This is true for supplements of all types of collagen. Topical applications or pills will not give you the same results, regardless of the type of collagen you are supplementing with.
